OPPORTUNITY FOR NILGIRI YOUTH TO BECOME HOCKEY UMPIRE

           An opportunity for Nilgiri youngsters to shine as umpires in Tamil Nadu state level hockey tournaments has been thrown open by ‘Hockey Nilgiris’, functioning under ‘Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu’.

This follows the conduct of ‘Hockey Umpires Seminar and Clinic’ at Coonoor under the guidance of Surya Prakash, international umpire and Technical Committee Member of ‘Hockey India’. 

Rigorous coaching sessions were also conducted by S Ananthakrishnan, former National Umpire and present President of ‘Hockey Nilgiris’.

“Following these, a package of examinations comprising theory paper, Practical and viva voice was held to test candidates’ acquaintance with the latest international hockey rules and interpretations.  As many as 22 candidates took up the exam being held in Nilgiris after a gap of over two decades.  Successful candidates will be eligible to officiate at state level tourneys”, ‘Hockey Nilgiris’ Secretary J Balamurgan told me.  

National hockey player and Vice President Hockey Nilgiris Suresh Kumar and Treasurer of Hockey Nilgiris A Raja monitored the deliberations.

TWO HUNDRED STUDENTS PERFORM YOGA

                  The ‘International Yoga day’ fever has caught up in Nilgiri schools.

As this day falls on Sunday, Gurukulam School in Agalar, Ooty, conducted a special yoga presentation on Friday.

“Yoga is a regular co-curricular activity in our school.  However, to mark the international yoga day, our Yoga teacher Nirmala conducted this special programme to further sensitise our students and parents on the importance of yoga in contributing for healthy body and mental concentration”, school Correspondent N Arjjunan said..

“In all, 200 students from class V to X took part in this mass yoga”, said Managing Trustee Vasukie who presided over the event.

ST JOSEPH’S STUDENTS VOW TO HONE LEADERSHIP TRAITS

                Students of the 128-year-old St Joseph’s Boys’ Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, Coonoor, used their Investiture Ceremony to vow to hone up leadership traits for a stronger society in future. 

“This follows our cultivating managerial thought in our students that leadership is capacity to translate vision into reality as leader knows the way, goes the way and shows the way”, St Joseph’s Principal Bro. A Ramesh said.

Nigeria-based industrialist Alexander Oommen installed Rohith Joseph as Head-boy, S Akash as Assistant Head-boy and Rohith Savio as Sports Captain.

He also installed House leaders – Prasad House: Vineeth (captain), Harshan Raj (vice captain), Deepak Kumar (Prefect); Azad House: Naresh (c), Samson Daniel (vc) and Rohit Kumar (P); Gandhi House: Karthick (c), Akash Joseph (vc) and Bosco Simon (P) and Tagore House: Abhinav (c), Allwin Pushparaj (vc) and Sanjay (P).

Physical Director Sagayanathan co-ordinated the solemn ceremony.
